W.E.B. Griffin
I earned my college degree late in life - Alumnus of Penn State University with a degree in Information Sciences and Technology.. I'm proud of my degree, but I must say, most of what I know has come from mentors - whether they know they are my mentors or not.

Early in my life, my brother Peter and I had a few great trumpet teachers. We were privately tutored for $7 each per week - an amount our parents could hardly afford. I can say with immodesty that their investment was well worth it. The few who know of my musical background and read this blog could attest that my brother and I have reached some level of success in music and are considered accomplished as musicians, writers, and producers.

Feeling a magnetism to all that is creative, in my early twenties I also pursued a path in mechanical engineering. My Dad's partner, Venerio J. Rigolini was a true Da Vinci maestro in the mechanical sciences. I spent 14 years being tutored by him, and in the process was honored to have been an integral part in the invention and design of a half-dozen pieces of proprietary manufacturing machinery. Yet, Vinnie didn't just teach me engineering. He taught me how to look at life - to him - as a continual array of challenges that engineers took joy in overcoming. Vinnie was a U.S. MARINE who fought in the terrible Battle of Iwo Jima, but his greatest accomplishments and his true love was in inventing and designing what had never been created before. I believe it was he who ignited my passion to love something and pursue it. "Do what you love and all of your days will be happy," he'd tell me repeatedly. He was right, of course.

I could go on with stories of several others who have motivated and taught me over the span of my life - from my brother Peter - to legendary KANSAS producer Jeff Glixman - to my wife Lisa, but those are stories for another time. I decided to write this piece because there is someone to whom I owe a great deal - though he probably will never know it. He is master author W.E.B. Griffin.

I'm a person of routine. I find peace and harmony through routine. Routine allows me to write most efficiency. When it comes to creating, I am an easily distracted individual. That would never do, if one intends to become one of the most prolific writers of his generation. The truth is that "life gets in the way" for everyone. Those who rise to the top in their professions and arts are the ones that overcome life's distractions. To that end, I use a daily regimen to help me focus. One aspect of my regimen is, every morning, to read from one of the master storytellers that have had the most impact on me. Of all the many writers that have, one has had the most impact - W.E.B. Griffin.

For those who don't know him, Griffin is one of the premier writers of historical fiction. His varies series and novels tell some of the most dramatic stories of World War II, not so much from a macro perspective, but from an intimate, individual perspective. Griffin's characters propel his stories and not the other way around. Both the good guys and the bad guys are interesting, well-rounded, filled with virtues and faults, talents and habits, and senses of humor and compassion. I find myself wanting to revisit them every single morning and that is the highest compliment a writer can ever receive. Griffin's characters are as important in my life as any people I know that live in this existence, and not on the written page.

I find myself continuously learning from his writing style. His stories are not filled with blood or action or sex. Yet, as Hitchcock could scare 10 years off my life without a decapitation or zombie appearing in his movies; Griffin can have me sitting on the edge of my seat gripped with suspense with just a conversation between two of his characters.

I really enjoy the depth of his characters, but just as much, I enjoy the tempo of his stories. There's no rush - no pressure to sew it all up by the last page. Many of the problems his protagonists face are too complex to solve in one story or in a 100% way.

Griffin isn't a flowery writer, but his descriptions of the scotch his characters drink and the food they eat has, more than once, led me to pour two fingers and look forward to a juicy T-bone.

I was introduced to Griffin's books when buying several Clancy novels way back when, from Barnes & Noble. Apparently someone had put down one of Griffin's novels - book 1 of his "The Corps" series in the Clancy section and I came upon it. Opening the front cover I saw a blurb from Clancy stating that, to him, Griffin was the ultimate writer of war fiction. That, and the fact that my dad was a U.S. MARINE in both WWII and Korea was enough for me to buy it and read it.

I was blown away.

I ended up giving it to my dad, who didn't like reading war fiction because, to that time, he used to say it was too unreal. That was, until he read Griffin's The Corps series. As he would finish one book in the series, I would buy him another. He loved them and I loved him and so I appreciated Griffin's books even more.

My dad died mid-way through the last novel in The Corps series. I'm not particularly sentimental, but I left his bookmark in the scruffy paperback. It reminds me of the joy the novels brought to him - all the way up to his last days.

Writing stories like W.E.B. Griffin is what I aspire to do. Though my stories will undoubtedly be different in terms of plot and style, one aspect I hope to emulate is his power to tell a story and to bring characters alive.

If I'm successful, it's because I had a great teacher. I hope I get the opportunity to tell him that one day.

Finally … RISE TO THE CALL is published … All praise to Him!

It took a month longer than anticipated to publish _RTTC_. That’s about my only disappointment with the project. It was a joy to write. After writing three full-length novel manuscripts before it (two were published), I feel like I know how to tell a written story now. The editing and formatting processes are also becoming smoother.

Here’s the latest:

·         Effective July 2012, JarRyJorNo Publishing (my imprint) decided to leave KDP Select. Truth is I never felt comfortable limiting my distribution. KDP was a success for me though. From December to June, it garnered me thousands of new readers, yet, I received complaints from incumbent readers. That is not an acceptable tradeoff for me. I come from a family of successful small business owners. I was taught early on to place the highest value on customers. The ranking was oldest customers = most valuable; then came new customers, followed by prospects. For the KDP Select contact period, in order to service my loyal customers who did not read Kindle, I ended up supplying free copies in other formats. That is also unacceptable. If you own a deli, you give out free samples of your cold cuts – you DON’T give away free heroes though. Which brings me to my next item …

·         JarRyJorNo Publishing has also decided to severely cut back on free copies, whether they are offered in giveaways or via distributors. Here’s my view – Tom Clancy never supplied me with one of his novels for free; nor did W.E.B. Griffin … or Jack London … or Sir Arthur Conan Doyle … or Stephen Hunter … or any of the authors of the myriad STAR TREK novels that I’ve read … or Shakespeare for that matter (I bought his complete works). I gladly paid for ALL of the novels that I ever wanted to read. As for novels that I didn’t want to read, offering me a free copy of them would not have changed my mind to read them. I’ll tell you something else – the only (really) negative reviews I have ever received have ALL come from people who received a FREE copy of one of my novels. That really makes no sense to me – people joined free giveaways for my novels and then wrote negative reviews stating at the onset that 1-they had won the novel on Goodreads, etc.; and 2-they didn’t enjoy the story (mostly because they didn’t read that type of novel). Question … why would a person join a giveaway for a counter-terrorism novel if the person doesn’t believe in punishing terrorists? For the free copy? Another question … why would that same person then go to the trouble to publish a review of that same novel? To tell the world that they had won it? To tell the world that they don’t believe in punishing terrorists? Here’s what I do: I don’t like to read puritan romance novels, SO, I don’t buy puritan romance novels. Nor do I join free giveaways for puritan romance novels … and even if I met a puritan romance author and that author offered me a complimentary copy of their novel … and even if I accepted the comp copy, so as not hurt the author’s feelings .. I certainly would NOT publish a negative review of it, starting with, “I don’t like anything about this novel …” blah blah blah. <sigh> This is not to say that I won’t offer comp copies – but I prefer to offer them to people who actually: A-like the genre of my novels; and  B-want to read my novels.

·         The audiobook editions of THE WATCHMAN OF EPHRAIM and SIGNS OF WAR are now available on Amazon, audible.com, and in the iTunes store. I’m very pleased with the way they came out! I can’t say enough about the excellent narration by the talented actor Elijah Alexander. Standing ovation for E-bro! And a special thank you to Amazon/ACX for agreeing to pay a stipend in order to produce both works!

·         On Monday, July 23, filming of the first CRIS DE NIRO series trailer will take place … with yours truly acting in it. I tried my best to have Elijah act in it, but alas, I couldn’t make it happen. So, the part of Mr. De Niro will be played by … his creator. I would be terrified if it weren’t for the incredibly-talented director, Philip Norbert of Inklinker. Philip is also a dear friend of mine. He’s gathered an incredible production team. I place myself entirely into his hands. I’ll let you know how it turns out. By the way, it was my idea to shoot a “series” trailer, as opposed to a “book” trailer. There’s a few reasons for this – the trailer can act as a cohesive marketing tool for all of the novels in the series – and – more resources can be spent on ONE trailer that can then be attached to all of the novels in the series, resulting in a higher quality marketing piece. An idea I offered to Inklinker and one that I think will benefit other indie publishing houses in time to come.

·         I’ve started writing Book 4 of the CRIS DE NIRO series, PROJECT 111. It picks up right after the last events in RISE TO THE CALL and I’m very pleased so far. I hope to have it out by December.

·         Book 5 of the CRIS DE NIRO series is in pre-production. I won’t say more about it yet, but its title is NOTHING SO GLORIOUS. Its storyline is different than the series’ other storylines. I’m excited about expanding the scope of plots in the series. I hope to have it released in first quarter 2013.

·         Pre-production has also begun on my new fantasy-adventure series, SAGA OF THE SEVEN SEALS! It’s a seven-book saga set in the Biblical time of Revelation. I hope to have book one of S7S, THE FIRST SEAL: YEAR OF THE WHITE HORSE released by next summer.

That’s enough for now. Thanks for tuning in!

It's been a while since I logged here. That's because of the scarcity of a commodity that most writer's face ... time.

There's been enough written about how to juggle the many eggs an indie publisher has to handle - editing, graphic design, formatting, publishing, social networking, website(s) maintenance, bookkeeping, blogging ... not to mention, actually writing the bloody thing, so I won't preach here. Especially, since I haven't found the secret pill to take to solve it, other than, just rollin' up me sleeves and gettin' to it.

I will say this though ... it all should be gotten to. And ... writing should ALWAYS come first!

With that said, lots of blessed and fantastic stuff happening:
  • Book 3 of the CRIS DE NIRO series is in editing now. _RISE TO THE CALL_ will be out next month!
  • Audiobooks for _THE WATCHMAN OF EPHRAIM_ and _SIGNS OF WAR_ are in production and will also be released next month! My great actor-friend Elijah Alexander narrates them. I've dubbed him "The Voice of the CRIS DE NIRO series." He's awesome. He brought the characters to life in the most entertaining way. In the near future, I'll be writing about how I simply could not have created the audiobooks with Elijah, if it weren't for the most amazing company in the world - Amazon! There's a lot of difference of opinion about Amazon, but for me - Amazon is simply the best, most supportive company for an indie publisher! Thank you Amazon!
  • Started work on CRIS DE NIRO, Book 4, tentatively titled _PROJECT 111_, with an expectation to release by December.
  • About to start work on a new Fantasy/Adventure series, titled, SAGA OF THE SEVEN SEALS. This was actually the first series I worked on as a professional writer, back in 2010. I had written a manuscript and shopped it the 'legacy' way (47 queries, 10 proposals). I had gotten a handful of lukewarm interest, when I decided (after re-reading it several times) that it wasn't the book I wanted to write. <-- A newbie writer mistake. Instead of trying to "fix" it, I tossed the manuscript and started work on _THE WATCHMAN OF EPHRAIM_, with the intention of going back and writing it correctly, in the future. Well, in the words of ... somebody ... "The future is now."
On another note, my great author-amigo Jeff Bennington came to town this week, with his wife and kids. He has four kids - I have four kids. They homeschool theirs - we homeschool ours. He's a neo-pro thriller author - well ... you see the similarities.  c",)

Anyway, we spent a fun night talking writing and indie publishing - sharing experiences, swapping stories and talking about some of our brutha & sistas of the keyboard (so some of your ears should be ringing). It was just a great experience. Other than being a great writer, Jeff is one of the most astute indie publishers when it comes to marketing that I know. He's a very humble guy, but anyone that has read his _Indie Author's Guide To The Universe_ knows that he knows his stuff.

Jeff was one of a few authors that actually reached out and helped me start my writing career (along with Dean Wesley Smith and Scott Nicholson). I'm proud to call him a friend and I consider him one of the up-&-coming authors that will continue to grow in success.

This will be the first time I attempt to write two novels, at the same time. I'm hoping the fact they are in different genres will help me accomplish the task. Two years ago, I read that Dean Wesley suggested a novel author should aim to write 3-4 full-length novels per year. He backed that up (as he backs everything he teaches up) with personal accomplishment and experience. It can be done 'cause it has been done! <-- that's all I had to know.

With that said, it's ... an aggressive objective, especially for an author of counter-terrorism novels. In order to make mine as real as possible, I have to research for months. I am showing progress though. My first novel (the one that wasn't published) took me 46 years to write; my 2nd took one year; my third ... 10 months; my 4th ... 6 months. My objective is to write/publish every 3-4 months. I'm not sure I'll ever attain that, or even if I do, I probably won't be able to sustain it - but it is a noble objective, and at the end of the day - I'll end up with a robust body of work published. <And that's the key to success in publishing.

Quantity and quality go hand in hand in publishing. Writers need to continually aspire to maximize both.

On that note ... back to it!

If you want to read about how I ended up enrolling in the 11th hour, read the story here and if you don't believe in God before you do ... you should believe in Him afterwards because, if it weren't for Him literally leading me to water AND making me drink, I would have missed the entire opportunity! Read about it here:

My sincere thanks to everyone around the world who are now reading my novels ... I'm humbled and as always to all of my mentors - Dean Wesley Smith, Passive Guy, Joe Konrath, Scott Nicholson, and Jeff Bennington!

And to them and everyone else - Blessings, Peace, Joy, and Health in 2012!

I haven't posted a log here in awhile but making lots of progress on several fronts.I finally published my second novel, _Signs of War_. Yikes, it took much longer than I originally anticipated! What I learned from publishing _Signs of War_ is that publishing books can be a lot like having children. My wife may have a different view, but what I mean is ... each book is different!

... Different in the way it's conceived
... It takes shape differently
... It comes into the world differently
... And it reacts to the world differently and the world reacts differently to it!

I'll also add that, just like with my firstborn, I took such great care with my first published novel. I went to great pains with every single detail and nuance of publishing _The Watchman of Ephraim_, taking nothing for granted. I had no experience having a child before my son Jared was born, just as I had no experience publishing a novel before _TWoE_, so there was so much excitement and anticipation and not a small amount of anxiety.

With my second novel, as with my second child, Ryan, I naively thought that the experience would be similar to my first experience ... and just like with my first child, it bore NO RESEMBLANCE to the first experience!

The UPs:
+ I was more relaxed writing _Signs of War_. I learned so much about how to tell a story in novel form.
+ I already had a core of characters to start with and a storyline established. Writing a series gives you those advantages.
+ I knew how to create the cover, front matter and back matter and how to format. After all, I did it all once, so I should be an expert, shouldn't I?
+ I wrote generally at a faster pace.

The Downs:
- I learned that with a series, the writer must balance the need to give new readers, who may have not read the previous book(s) in the series, just enough background on characters and storyline without boring the stuffing out of those who have.
- I thought because I had written one novel, that I would just naturally get better at eliminating typos, grammatical errors and the like. Well, I didn't make most of the errors that I made writing _TWoE_  ... BUT ... I made new ones! <sigh>
- I was too casual with my deadline with _Signs of War_. That's because I thought it would close at the same tempo as _The Watchman of Ephraim_ did. Well ... it didn't and I ended up missing a window of time that my main editor had available. That caused a chain effect of delays to transpire. I was supposed to have the book to her by no later than August 8th. If I would have kept that deadline, _Signs of War_ would have been out by my target date of September 11th - just in time to leverage the additional interest that _The Watchman of Ephraim_ was garnering (because of the plot). Instead, _SoW_ took two additional weeks to complete. That caused my editor to take an additional month to edit and that in turn led to further delays on my end, making final changes, formatting and publishing it. In the end, _Signs of War_ was released almost six weeks later!
- The eBook, paperback, and hardback publishing of _Signs of War_ did NOT go as smoothly as I thought it would! I thought, "I've done this before," so I wasn't quite as careful as I was the first time around. Boy oh boy, I should have been. A series of minor but careless imperfections has kept me from publishing all editions even to this writing. The hardcover edition is STILL not published, pending one more proof that I should receive in about a week.

I think the one thing that I feel I must improve on most is SCHEDULING. Ideally, I would like to have a pre-release phase where I could allow pre-ordering. I'd also like to get the novel into the hands of at least a dozen reviewers BEFORE releasing it to the public and have all the editions released on the same day.

Just like with having children, all that stuff though goes away when I took my first look at my son Ryan ... and then Jordan ... and then Noah. They are all blessings, as are every one of my published works.

All praise to Him!

For a writer, the experience of writing and publishing a book is akin to having a baby. Okay, the actual process of making a baby is … or at least, should be … more fun but … stay with me here!

It all starts with desire … thoughts in your head. Thoughts turn to scenes and scenes to plots. Suddenly, you’re caught up in a passionate embrace with your storyline. The suspense builds, the action picks up pace … faster … harder <pant> <groan> <moan> … until …

The climax … followed closely by the release of so much tension!

Was it good for you?

A little time passes and then the realization hits you like a ton of bricks! You’ve conceived a story!

Elation followed by fear. The questions and the self-doubt … what kind of writer will I be? What kind of story will I give birth to?

You carry the story in your mind and heart and belly for months. The story grows within you. Family and friends notice the changes that take place – you’re irritable … mood swings … elation … despair. You’re eating more, then not at all. All the time the story is swelling within you.

Your Word document becomes your womb. The process of typing out your story is like a long, laborious labor – so much anticipation, so much anxiousness. What will my baby look (read) like?! The closer you get to your due date (set by your publisher) the more agitated and antsy you get.

I want this thing OUT of me!

The actual delivery can be quite messy and excruciatingly painful … yes, you know what I’m talking about … EDITING!

I wish I was from my parents’ generation where I could just relax in the waiting room with a bottle of single malt and a box of cigars all wrapped with the label, “It’s a Novel!” in cellophane, ready for me to hand out to everyone. But no, I’m part of the Lamaze generation (read: Self-Published Author) where I have to stand next to my editors (wife and son) and hear them telling me over and over … BREATHE … as they slowly, unbearably coax the manuscript – MY manuscript out of its embryonic state-of-being and into the bright daylight of an unforgiving world.

Finally, they give it a smack on its end matter and declare, “You have a full-length novel!”

The joy … oh, the joy!

I want so badly to wrap my baby in warm, swaddling formatting and publish.

Blogger’s Note: As you may have noticed, I’m going slightly mad (thank you, Freddie, for describing my state in song). My new novel, SIGNS OF WAR is in the throes of her final stage of editing. I suffer … I tap my foot … I look at my clock … I ask, “Are we there yet?” To which my editor looks up in frustration with me and shakes her head with the stoicism of Zeno.

I wait.

I suffer.

Those of you that have been following my Author’s Logs might have noticed a sharp decline in the amount of posts I make here. That’s a good thing … at least for me. Let me tell you why.

In my continual quest to learn how to become a successful fiction author, I came across the book by John Locke, _How I sold 1 Million Kindle Books in 5 Months_. Thanks to Passive Guy for giving me the heads up about it!

I believe in learning from people that don’t just talk about how to do things – they actually do them successfully – and John Locke is certainly one of those people. Cutting to the chase, Locke explains how he tried throwing money at traditional marketing and advertising methods and how that availed him little. Then he experienced a promoting epiphany. It all came clear to him – how to utilize social networking and effective blogging to attract the type of followers that will buy whatever he writes. John explains how a writer must first know his niche in order to focus on them. There are a lot of other valuable tidbits in that book. I think it’s a must-read for all SelfPubbers.

One main aspect I learned from Locke fit in well with what I’ve already learned from my SelfPubbing Sensei Dean Wesley Smith and Guru Joe Konrath – that is – spend MOST of your time WRITING YOUR NOVELS! Locke explains that he made his blogs much more effective by publishing less of them but making each blog more pertinent – and directly tying them in with his novels.

Well, all I can tell you is – Locke’s promoting epiphany knocked me off my horse too! At the time I read Locke’s book I was already publishing two blogs – this one and one on my author’s website that I had just re-branded to “SelfPubber’s Pub.” The blogs are different in that with Author’s Log I want to share my experiences – good, bad, and indifferent – as they occur. I thought that could be of some help to other SelfPubbers to actually be able to read about how I manage my writing/publishing career. SelfPubber’s Pub is my voice into the SelfPubbing community – very much like bending an arm in a local pub – where I can voice my opinions or just stand up on a chair and raise a toast to someone in the community. It’s also a place where I want to allow other SelfPubbers to stop by - via guest posts or comments - and let them sound off. Communities should always learn from and be able to lean on each other.

Yet, after reading John’s book, I saw that I had missed the mark with the core reason for blogging in the first place – marketing myself/my novels. Blogging isn’t the place to advertise but it is the place where you can make the world aware of you and your writing/works, etc. Locke enlightened me by explaining to me that with my blogs, I need to both give people a taste of my writing AND tie them in with my novels - less blogs but more effective blogging. In the end, readers get more pertinent articles and I take up less of their/your time … and mine.

Immediately after reading Locke’s novel, I began a third blog – one that appears on my author site’s homepage, www.GerarddeMarigny.com. I also decided that I will only publish blogs here on Author’s Log and SelfPubber’s Pub when I have something to say – like today.

By the way … I just completed the rough draft of my newest novel, the sequel to _THE WATCHMAN OF EPHRAIM_. It’s called _SIGNS of WAR_ … all praise to HIM!

It took me 220 days to write 94,614 words –  and that’s TOO LONG! I know it is. It works out to a meager 430 words per day. A writer’s normal defensive reaction is to rattle off a litany of reasons why I averaged such a paltry amount of words per day. Bottom line, no one cares – I don’t even care. From the time I read that Dean Wesley Smith advocates that a fiction writer should be turning out three to four novels per year, every year – that became one of my objectives. Stupid math shows that I can’t be taking 220 days to turn out a rough draft (that still has to be edited and formatted before it can be published) and turn out 3-4 novels per year. So, I have to do better.

I have improved though. My first (unpublished) full-novel manuscript took me 46 years to produce. My second manuscript _THE WATCHMAN OF EPHRAIM_ took one year to produce and now _SIGNS OF WAR_ took 220 days (by the time I publish it, it’ll be @236 days). So, I cut a little over three months off. With this next one I’m about to start writing, I need to cut about the same amount of time off – and I’ll be at my objective.

Now … all I have to do is … do it!

I haven't logged an entry here in a bit because I've been swamped AND I'M LUVIN' IT!

Let me jump right in ... here's what I have going on right now:
+ I've contacted 95 Book Bloggers and have booked 38 stops on my "TWOE PATRIOT Blog Tour!" You can keep up with all of the stops on my blog tour by clicking on the banner next to this log. So far, I've booked 15 book reviews, 11 guest posts, and 7 Q&A sessions, including my interviewing two _TWOE_ characters, the flamboyant David Nicholls and Cris De Niro himself (De Niro doesn't do many interviews). There are a number of FREE book giveaways that will be running at various stops on the tour, so be sure to keep an eye out for them. The whole tour, which launches on July 04th and runs through September 11th should be a fantastic and fun experience for everyone! I hope you tag along with me throughout it as we will all get to meet a bunch of new and great book lovers!

+ I'm running a 12-book giveaway on Goodreads.com! Check out the details about it below and be sure to enter to win!

+ Yesterday, I shot a Q&A session with a great Director/friend of mine Philip Nobert of KINGMAKER PRODUCTIONS. This Q&A session is the first of what we hope to be an ongoing relationship between Philip and me for all of my videos, live interviews, book trailers, etc. Anything that has to do with my video marketing and promotion will hopefully be handled by Philip's new venture. The cool thing for all you SelfPubbers to keep an eye out for - is that Philip's new venture will be offering their incredible video services to SelfPubbers. They can be the one-stop solution for all of a self-publishers' visual arts needs - from book trailers, to website creation, to Q&A shoots, live appearances and so much more. It's not a done deal yet, so you'll have to stay tuned - in the meantime, my Q&A should be out by July 4th, so you can get to see the quality of Philip Norbert's productions. I was blown away!!! Thanks also to Philip's cinematographer and friend Jay Nemeth of FlightLine Films. Jay shot the interview with Philip. I'm going to have Philip guest post on my website blog in the near future, to introduce himself and his new venture.

+ I met with Aaron McCaslin of Retrospect Records last weekend to discuss the upcoming release of a boxed set of my old rock band AMERICADE's music. The box set is going to be called "AMERICADENCE" and will include lots of previously never-released music. It should be a great treat to AMERICADE fans the world over ... and we're dedicating the box set to the memory of my rock brother - AMERICADE founding member and drummer Walt "Wildman" Woodward III. It's going (we hope) to coincide with the launch of my TWOE PATRIOT Blog Tour.

+ Aaron of Restrospect Records is also working on digitizing our award-winning MTV video from back in 1983 - "We're An American Band." It has never appeared on the internet so it should be a really cool nugget for A-boyz fans!

If things work out - I may also launch a music project that will integrate with my book themes. I'm targeting 2012 for attempting to write some new music and gather my musical friends together to make it happen! More to come ...

+ My 10-year old son Ryan has written two original piano pieces that I'm going to use as background music on a page or two of my www.GerarddeMarigny.com website. I'm very proud of him! My oldest son Jared is part of my editing team and now my 2nd oldest is contributing his original music ... life doesn't get cooler than that for me!

+ If/when things work out with my Director-friend Philip Norbert and the new visual arts production company he's working on - I may be shooting my first-ever book trailer for _The Watchman of Ephraim_! Stay tuned for updates on that. We also have a number of other exciting VIDEO ideas in the concept stage - all expanding on my/our SelfPubbing world. I'm stoked about ALL of it!

+ Since I had to put completing _SIGNS OF WAR_ on the back burner until I did all the work for the blog tour (and there's a BUNCH of work - writing guest blogs, interviews, sending out requests, promoting, etc) - I'm intending to get back to completing _SOW_ in July. I hope to have the first draft written by the end of July and then we'll utilize the month of August for editing, beta reading, cover art creation, and formatting. If all goes to plan, _SIGNS OF WAR_, the sequel to _The Watchman of Ephraim_ will be released in September, prior to September 11th!

That's the skinny ... back to it!

My brother Peter's old motto continues to inspire me "...ALL THINGS, ALL THE TIME!"

Just a head's up today. I'm knee-deep in the setting up of my very first blog tour - "TWOE PATRIOT Blog Tour!" The tour starts July 04 and runs through September 11.

I was turned onto the idea of conducting a blog tour from great author and friend, Jeff Bennington, who was kind enough to write a guest blog at my SelfPubber's Pub a week ago. You can read it here - "Building Your Own Blog Tour." Many thanks again to Jeff for teaching us all how to create our own blog tours and for giving us some point-on advice! I can tell you from my experience setting up my own blog tour ... his advice was ACCURATE on all counts!

I'm going to post an article (or more) about my experiences - good and bad with TWOE PATRIOT Blog Tour, including the results I get from it. In order to post results though, I may have to post more than one article about it, as some of the results won't be instantaneous.

At the end of the day though, I hope to give you an clear idea of what you can expect if you want to set up your own blog tour.

I'll tell you this ... it ain't like my own heavy metal days, where a tour meant sleeping on a bus from 2am to 2pm then rolling out of bed and hanging out (usually bending an arm with friends) until sound check.

Blog Tours take a good deal of effort to pull off correctly and in order to get the most out of them, while offering the most to the folks.

Back to it ...
